If you follow me on social media, you may know that my husband, Brian, got me a hot air balloon ride for Christmas. Now, this isn’t the hot air balloon ride he promised, but it was a taste of what’s to come. Plus, we got some experience blowing up the balloon! You guys, a hot air balloon ride would be PERFECT for an elopement. Let me explain…

There are several companies nationwide who run hot air balloon rides. I’m sure there’s at least one in your state or a neighboring state. Depending on their packages, they start at about $500 for the both of you for an hour ride. If you’re wanting to have guests, price increases accordingly, and lots of companies have packages for elopements and intimate weddings. And get this, they’re STILL usually cheaper than hosting a full blown reception.

Picture this, you, your loved one, and officiant, and balloon pilot taking you to the skies at sunrise. As a photographer, I can either be in the same balloon if the company has a larger basket, OR (and this would be a super awesome option) in a separate balloon so I can accurately capture how awesome your elopement is by incorporating the backdrop, you two, and the entire balloon in the frame.

Don’t want to have your ceremony in the air? Have it inside the balloon. I got to take a look and go inside while we were setting up on this day, and balloons have been used in the past for engagement photos and proposals (hint, hint for those of you struggling to find a way to best propose).

Aside from the world-famous Albuquerque, NM Balloon Fiesta, there are also several in the Pacific Northwest, including Vista Balloon Adventures.

Part of what I provide my brides is some of the legwork that might be required – including making phone calls, checking availability, etc. for the venue of your choice. Does a hot air balloon elopement sound like the perfect adventure? Let’s go!

Ahhhhh what an insane idea and so so awesome! As elopement photographers, we are definitely exposed to a LOT of different venues and places, so being able to take all of our knowledge and advise our couples on incredible (and unique!!!) experiences is so important and valuable. Well done, and I hope hot air balloon elopements become more and more common (because this is SO cool)!

WHAT THE WHAT?! A hot air ballon elopement would be SO FRIGGEN RAD. I can only imagine how colorful and beautiful all those photos would be.

So cool to learn about how hot air balloons work! I’d love to do an Elopement in one of these!

I think the coolest engagement session I could imagine would be to go up in a hot air balloon. I’d love to visit NM for that reason – super rad!

It would be so cool to have an elopement or engagement session in a hot air balloon! Fun idea 🙂

Wow! This looks so cool! Did you actually get to go up?!

We did! It was tethered, but perfect practice for the big ride later!

A balloon adventure would be such a perfect option for an engagement or even elopement in Albuquerque!

Dude this is so cool. I have been wanting to visit Albuquerque for this is exact reason haha so many hot air balloons!
